One Down

Okay, I only got one done. Who knew that yarn and canvas take FOREVER! I am going to redo the guest bathroom in retro Mario Bros and here is the first addition: One Mario- Question Block Tissue Box Cover.

I also took a moment to hang up our souvenir from Disney Land. We got a embroidered coat of arms for Taylor and Simper. It looks great with our Scottish sword (Wedding Cake knife) and one of our wedding portraits.

Crafting I will. No try. Just do.

Today I will craft. It will be good. I will post pics of what I finish at the end of the day. I am not going to think about homework, I will just get projects worked on and worry about the Master's program of Doom tomorrow. It is really gonna be good.

Peace

Painting by Mary Taylor

I am behind once again.

Grandma Mary passed away last Friday. She had stopped eating and drinking the week before so we knew it would just be a matter of time. I got to spend the week with my Aunt Merle. She is so fun to shop with and eat sushi with. Being around her also reminds me why I want to be a teacher and hopefully that day will soon come where I have my own classroom. We spent one evening telling stories and playing string tricks until midnight as we watched over grandma. Good times and good memories.

Family came in and out of our house for a week. People coming to visit and say their goodbyes to Grandma. I cooked up a storm and made sure there was comfort food for any one who needed something rich or sweet. I even made Grandma's lemon meringue pie with homemade pie crust. That seemed to brighten up a few family members (especially my brother who did not want to share!)

As sad as it is to lose someone in this life, this was a good and positive release. Grandma had not been doing very well for the last 5+ years. Her short term memory was not really existent and the most heart breaking day was when she could not remember her son, (Morris, my dad). She needed constant care and so many pills that matched the colors of the rainbow.

After her passing on Friday morning around 3 AM, he family made the various needed phone calls and took some much needed naps. Friday evening we all (Lavan's family, my family, mom, dad, and Aunt Merle) gathered at my dad's house for dinner. We ate outside and had all of the kids running around chasing the cats. My dad and Aunt Merle played with the kids, tossing tennis balls around and laughed to their heart's content. As the sun set and it started getting darker, I kept glancing at my dad's face. Relief and peace poured from him, something I hadn't seen in years. Having the patriarch of the family so peaceful and composed seems to really calm all the family members around them.

ROTFLOL

On more than several occasions, I have had students if they can write their work in "text" form. Really? OMG (Oh My Gosh!!) AFAIAA (As Far As I Am Aware) this was an AFZ (Acronym Free Zone). LOL. WDR (With Due Respect) UDH82BMe (You'd Hate to Be Me) when these essays need to be graded! So with TIME (Tears In My Eyes) the answer is NO! TIA (Thanks In Advance)

Help! How do I type something first and then post a picture underneath the words? Every time I upload the pics, it pushes the words down to the bottom of the page. It won't let me drag the pics either. Ideas?

Valentine's full of cake pops

Chocolate covered cake lollipops. (say that 3X fast). Made these for minions to take to their school Valentine's parties. Not bad for a first time. Next ones will be much better.

More Than Just Valentine's Day

Don't forget that tomorrow is a little more special than just a typical Valentine's Day.

Hair Day

OK, this picture was just bad timing. I asked her where her nose was and she pointed to it very accurately.
Here is my pretty little girl and her ditty. My little girl has crazy hair. It is curly, wavy, swirly, and makes ringlets if you get just enough peanut butter or macaroni and cheese in it.

I think she will have the Farrah Fawcett do someday unless we get it a little under control. The 70's look is coming back right? Look they are identical twins. Maybe she will even get those perfect teeth too. But unfortunately with some Taylor genes, her teeth are gonna need braces. If Melody is Farrah for Halloween, would anyone get it?

Yard Sale Finds

Look at this awesome "junk" I found at the Annual West School Rummage Sale. SO many ideas run through my head but I can't decide on one. I was thinking of turning the mirror into something you would see in Snow White's cottage or Gepetto's workshop...kind of a German cuckoo clock feel. Not sure what the little bench will be. A little fabric to reupholster (hardest word for me to spell ever!) and the red has got to go. There is nothing red in our house.....except for Quintin's room but I don't think his Cat in the Hat motif needs a little bench.

Upgrade

I want to turn this blog into...something. Something that people check everyday to see if that new "something" is posted that day. I have been trying to post something everyday (or every other day) trying to get into the grove. It is not going to badly. I have upped the words instead of just posting a picture. But what is that "something."

Crafts? There are so many crafty blogs out there, wouldn't know how to make mine the awesome. I stink at cooking.
Not going to be a weight loss site.
My kids are cute and all but I would feel weird having strangers seeing just pics of my kids.
Words of wisdom? I think I need a little more wisdom than that.
Primary Lessons site? No, because I would just be stealing other people's ideas.
Teacher Lessons? Nah, then I would have to be like accurate or something...

I am not a person who is amazingly good at one thing. I like to dabble in little things, get a little experience and share to others....then I move on to the next thing. Could a blog be that? How could I make it interesting enough to make others want to check me out.......yeah baby, I said Check Me Out!! Ok, that was just a little weird.

I really enjoy reading EPBOT (On blog list to your left) I have emailed this awesome lady before and she is the host of Cakewrecks (another blog to your left) Awesome person and so fun. I want to do what she is doing but with a twist that is more me and of course not stealing someone else's idea.

So, any ideas you want to share so I can moderate and steal?

Flowers of blooming DOOM!

I have 6 bushes outside (no I do not remember what they are called) that are in full yellow bloom with cootie patootie flowers. My Happy Wanderer vine is dripping with purple flowers and my poppies are begging to wake up.

Now I know that bees are important for the world and environment. The side of my house is covered with bees. Even though it keeps solicitors away even more because they fear for their lives (yes, I had a windshield guy tell me this the other day), I need to find a way to keep the bees at bay.

No, I will not remove the flowers. I have tried spraying the plant with vinegar and it does not work, I sprayed the plant with the vinegar with the bees there and it did not deter them at all. Any suggestions? I really do not want to find out if my kids are allergic to bees.

Motorcycle Flashbacks.

My dad found out that I have never ridden (rode?) any of his Harleys before and he decided that this would be the day.

Confession, I have not ridden a motorcycle since I was like.....8? I remember being in the front of my dad's red dirtbike and pretended that I was pushing the gas and I was really driving. We would get on the highway out by the Coolidge airport, the sun was just setting and the desert was cold. I would curl up in a little ball on the gas tank and hold my head down until we got home. I did this so my eyes wouldn't freeze to death and bugs on the teeth is rather nasty. It was fun. I was little.

So my mom throws a jacket on me, gloves and a goofy helmet. (that does not fit over my pony tail, so rewind, fix hair down, then put helmet back on) Dad says get on the left (just like a horse!) so I wouldn't burn my leg on the exhaust pipes (not like a horse). After an entertaining balancing act on my part, I finally manage to get on the B*&^% seat. No he doesn't call it that but we needed some true motorcycle slang here. Engine blares and my teeth start to rattle. (note to self keep mouth tightly shut) My dad says, "You have a back rest back there, feel free to lean back." I say to myself, "Not a chance." Arms are placed around my dad and we are off.

Nice and slow down the drive way. No problem, this is easy and just fine. Turn south on Attaway Road with a gorgeous sunset to look at (and distract me). I check the speedometer. 45, I am doing GREAT!! Then he starts his dad stuff. We weave back and forth from lane to lane. Holy Guacamole I can see the pavement get two feet closer as we lean side to side. Of course my grip is getting tighter and I swear I heard him chuckle. Weaving stops......thank you Gods that prefer things to be completely vertical.

Daddy is not done......He speeds up, no I am too much of a wuss to see how fast he was going. I couldn't have looked if I wanted to. My hands grasping his jacket (probably leaving permanent nail marks in the shape of crescent moons), and my head turned to the side as my body sunk into a warm spot behind his back. Let me tell you I was not in the right attire for this. Capris make a glorious wind tunnel that goes straight up the legs and stays circling around your behind. Too cold and too much of a chicken to take a glimpse at the speedometer.
He once told me his Harley went X mph in X seconds. I am sure what ever those X's are, it happened.

We hit the end of the pavement and he turns around. No words are exchanged and he guns it again. Again the X formula started all over again. Suddenly he slows down and I get the courage to look up to see if there is a reason. Oncoming traffic (farm truck). Thank you daddy for being considerate of the farmer's life. Farm truck passes and the zig zagging starts again. I am pretty sure he is laughing at me again. I made a sound somewhere between a Scream and a Squeal..... I think it sound like SQUEEEEEEEEEEE! A fun but terrified to death sound effect I would say.

At last the turn signal is on and we pull back into the driveway. I start to release my fingernails before he parks hoping he would never know about it. (totally didn't work, he made fun of me later on this)

I walk to the porch and my mom is staring.....glaring at me. "You guys are already back?," she says in doubt. "Yes," comes the inner child voice. "You were only gone like maybe 5 minutes." Well, I didn't respond because that eternity of those 5 minutes will always be in my mind.

Daddy walks up to the porch and says, "Hey whens the last time you rode a motorcycle? Did you forget how to place your body when we swerve?" My response, "Dad, the last time I rode, I was 8 years old and tiny and it didn't really matter how I moved my body." I think my dad was in shock that he hadn't thrown me on a bike since then........I believe he is going to try to make up for lost time.......I hope I can get used to this..............

(BTW the picture is a burn I made for my dad for father's day a couple of years ago.)

Yowl that broke the Kitty's Back

Our kitty (Toikey.....Toykey.....Tikey), ok I don't have a clue how to spell the kitty's name, anywho, I finally took the little girl to become less of a girl. After two years of dealing with a yowling all night for a boyfriend and marking everything to lure in that boyfriend, I set up an appointment. She went in yesterday in fear and hate in her eyes. When I picked her up she looked absolutely pathetic.
Poor kitty. She has been asleep in my room for the last 24 hours trying not to move, while I excitedly washed the curtains and kitchen rugs hoping I won't have to wash them again due to kitty smells.
This will be very exciting news for people who stay at our house overnight. Quite a few visitors have wanted to drop kick the poor thing do to her YOOWWLLLLing in the night. (yes Carter, you too) In a week she should be normal again and we can see what kind of personality she really has when she is not seeking some action.

The Joys of Threading a Needle

I fear that I look like this when I am threading my needle.
