Growing up

I think I finally know what I want to be when I grow up. It only took about 10 years of trying different things, but
I had a recent experience that left me inspired in a way I haven't felt in a long time. I have been substitute teaching these
last two months and learned a lot about kids and our lousy Coolidge school system. Out of the three different Elementary Schools, the best one by far is Hohokam (the one next to the LDS church).

Their biggest problem there is music. I got to sub for the music lady their and found our she isn't teaching them anything, they watch disney movies all day if they are young or do very boring music theory if they are older. All of the kids their hate music and it made me sad. I ran home at lunch grabbed
my trumpet, violin and all the drums I could get and taught the kids all about instruments in the last 3 periods of the day.

I had teachers coming in during classes wondering what the sound was they were hearing through the walls, the kids and I looked up and said "MUSIC"
The teachers started congratulating me on this. I wanted to teach them all about history, cultures, sounds, ideas, and effect that music
had on the world,....I didn't want to leave these classes. I really think I want to be a middle school music teacher. Not a band director, but
the person the kids first meet to inspire them about music so they will want to play the instruments and join the band.

yeah, you figured it out!! And it's something you're good at too! The great thing about music teachers is that they are few and far between...we have openings every year for them!

Such an inspiration. Yes, YOU would be perfect for it, and you can share that love of music with all of the little "cool" kids. Someday they will think back fondly on you, as they jam out in their uber crappy garage band.
(The word verification says "OOGZZ" wouldn't THAT be a cool band name?)

I knew it --- you want to be Mr. Pastor!!! now that is something to strive for.

But really I think you would do great and we sooooo need good music teachers in the lower grades.

Good for you! I still don't know what I want to do. Phil finally figured out what he wanted to last year. Too bad there will be another 3 years of school for it. Oh well. Krispy Kreme reopened on Superstition Springs just west of Power Road.

What a wonderful music teacher you would be - and Middle School would be perfect. They need music teachers so badly. Although all ages do not many people can teach Middle School. I am happy for you. Music is a wonderful thing!!!
